Lecture 16-18 of Weibo Law Lecture Hall Was Held

From October 23 to 25, the 16th to 18th lecture of Weibo law lectures were held in a row. The themes of the three lectures focused on hot issues on the frontier of constitutional studies, adhering to the local consciousness and practical character, and brought wonderful academic feast for teachers and students.

On the evening of October 23, the 16th lecture of Weibo law lecture was held in the Law School. Prof. Ren Xirong of Law School of Jilin University, Prof. Lin Yan of Kaiyuan Law School of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Assoc. Prof. Wang Wei of Law School of China University of Political Science and Law, were invited to give lectures on China Program of Constitutional Review. Assoc. Prof. Huang Mingtao of Law School of Wuhan University presided over the lecture. Wu Huajun, Su Shaolong, Zhai Han and other teachers and students from both inside and outside the school attended the lecture.

In the lecture, Prof. Ren believed that the studies of constitutional review need to focus on Chinese issues and find solutions suitable for China, which is both internal and external thinking; Prof. Lin thought that constitutional review is a universal issue, but factors such as the party system and political culture can cause Chinese constitutionality review program to differ from that of other countries. Assoc. Prof. Wang mainly introduced the function and path selection of constitutional review. She believed that constitutional review is the booster of a country's legitimacy, which has specific functions such as helping the country to transform and controlling the bottom line under abnormal conditions. The three speakers also had a comprehensive and detailed discussion on the significance of the establishment of the Constitution and Law Committee by the National People's Congress.

The audience was eager to ask questions about the comparison of the path of constitutional review between China and the United States, the relationship between institutions and culture, the comparison between consultative democracy and adversarial democracy, the difference between legality and constitutionality review, and the constitutionality review of internal party regulations, and the three speakers answered these questions in detail.

On the afternoon of October 24, the 17th lecture of Weibo Law Lecture was held. Prof. Han Dayuan, President of the Association of Constitutional Law of CLS and Professor of the Law School of Renmin University of China, gave the lecture on the topic of the Great Change Before the Hundred Years and the Mission of Contemporary Constitutional Law. The lecture was moderated by Prof. Qin Qianhong, Vice President of the Association of Constitutional Law of CLS and Professor of Wuhan University School of Law. Wu Huajun, Huang Mingtao, Su Shaolong, Zhai Han and other teachers and students attended the lecture.

The lecture was divided into four parts. Firstly, Prof. Han introduced the domestic and international background of the proposition, systematized the academic response and the basic research ideas of the academic community. The second part focused on the constitutional significance of the proposition, and clarified the proposition is a century of constitutional development, with Prof. Han taking the the constitution in international political structure as an introduction. The third part focuses on the constitutional connotation of the proposition, Prof. Han mainly clarified the historical and constitutional significance of human life and how to defend the natural right attributes of the right to life. In the end, Prof. Han pointed out that the Constitution will become the basic consensus of Chinese society in the post-epidemic era.

The audience was eager to ask questions about the changes in the relationship between the state and society under the state of non-normality, the equivalence between the right to life and the right to freedom, and the meaning of the dialogue between the Constitution and department law. Prof. Qin expressed his gratitude to Prof. Han at the conclusion of the lecture.

On the morning of October 25, the 18th lecture of Weibo Law Lecture was held. Mo Jihong, Researcher and Director of the Institute of International Law, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Executive Vice President of the Association of Constitutional Law of CLS, was invited to give a lecture on the Genealogy of Knowledge in Constitutional Law. The lecture was moderated by Prof. Qin Qianhong, Vice President of the Association of Constitutional Law of CLS and Professor of Wuhan University School of Law. Prof. Jiang Guohua and other teachers and students attended the lecture.

Researcher Mo proposed to divide constitutional law into broad constitutional law, narrow constitutional law and the narrowest constitutional law. Researcher Mo stressed the importance of the logical form and ability of thinking about constitutional issues with constitutional knowledge. We should establish a research system of constitutional law that focuses on constitutional values and constitutional law.

The audience had a heated discussion with Prof. Mo. Prof. Qin expressed his gratitude to Prof. Mo for his lecture.
