On September 27, 2019, the second session of the introductory lecture series on law was held in Room 201, the fourth teaching building of the Ministry of Arts and Sciences. The theme of the lecture was "China law tradition and cultural confidence". The speaker was Professor Liu Zhengquan, the director of law history teaching and research office. All 2019 undergraduate students attended the lecture.

At the beginning, Prof. Liu expressed his welcome to all the new students and expect the interaction between teachers and students. Prof. Liu's humor quickly infected everyone. The lecture began in a relaxed and harmonious atmosphere.

First of all, Prof. Liu made a conclusion that Chinese characters were important carriers of Chinese culture. He pointed out that "Shangshu" was the earliest historical book with written records in China. One of the important reasons why Chinese civilization could constantly continue was that China had a good record tradition. Through three stories, Prof. Liu told us that Chinese characters carried a lot of cultural information, and as a cultural gene, they affected each of us consciously or unconsciously.

At last, Prof. Liu discussed with the students about "why was it useful to learn the history of law" and "how to learn the history of law". In view of the former problem, He pointed out that when the study of law history went deep to a certain extent, learners should have three qualities which were good mentality, high-level thinking, and detailed thinking. He also put forward four hopes for the students: to pay attention to current affairs and serve the society; to pay attention to the cultivation of personal character, learning ability and cultural heritage; to have lofty ideals and romantic feelings; to cherish friends and keep the harmonious relationship between classmates and teachers.

At the last ten minutes of the lecture, with the encouragement of Prof. Liu Zhengquan, Zhang Dingmei asked three questions. Prof. Liu answered patiently one by one. In the lecture, Prof. Liu Zhengquan used the theories of other disciplines and Chinese and western history to elaborate his views. He emphasized the importance of cultivating characters and lifelong learning ability, giving an important lesson to law freshmen. In warm applause, the lecture came to a successful conclusion.
